Merdina Deva Gores was born in Agana, Guam. She traveled extensively both during her early years with her Peace Corps parents and later in college while studying language and culture in Mexico and Spain. She came to live in Mountain View in 2016, caretaking and homesteading on 5 acres of Ola'a forest.
She has experience working in a commercial greenhouse nursery in San Diego area, as well as volunteering on an organic farm which supplied a hospital kitchen in Arcata, California. She has worked teaching children age preschool to 8th grade for over 20 years through various school and church organizations.
She is excited to embark on this new chapter combining her love of both plants and education.

Makaiwa Kanui was raised in Ola'a Mountain View, and is currently living in Hilo on Hawai'i island. Her love for art was expressed in her early days through school projects, lei making, drawing, and playing Hawaiian music. Makaiwa later graduated from Mills College in Oakland, California with a BA in studio arts and a minor in ethnic studies. Makaiwa currently resides in Hilo, Hawai'i and continues her art practice through Mauamau Original Designs. Makaiwa is a local Native Hawaiian artist who is rooted in culture, language, and aloha 'āina (love for the land). She is a wife to Maika'i Kanui, and a mother of two boys; Kauila & 'Ekemana.
